Job Title: 2D Environment Designer (contract)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled 2D Environment Designer with expertise in Unity to create visually rich and historically resonant background paintings for our vertical slice. The successful candidate will deliver painted backgrounds reflective of traditional Afro-Caribbean aesthetics, adapted to the project’s unique Vèvè-Punk style as defined by our Creative Director.

rESPONSIBILITIES

  • Paint 2 immersive, detailed 2D environments in the established Vèvè-Punk artistic style, incorporating elements of Afro-Caribbean heritage and aesthetics.

  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and team to ensure visual consistency and alignment with narrative and gameplay elements.

  • Prepare finalized art assets optimized for Unity integration.

  • Regularly communicate progress and participate in team meetings to discuss and refine visual direction.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in digital painting and environment design specifically tailored for Unity-based game projects.

  • Strong capability in rendering detailed, atmospheric, and historically informed backgrounds.

  • Ability to closely follow the Creative Director’s guidelines while creatively contributing to the overall visual narrative.

  • Clear, proactive communication and consistent delivery within agreed timelines.

  • Comfortable working remotely within EST hours, with availability for meetings typically between 5 PM-9 PM weekdays and 10 AM-5 PM weekends.

  • Passion for storytelling, historical accuracy, and creating visually engaging player experiences.

contract details

  • Duration: Initial 2-month contract with potential extension for the full project.

  • Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week (part-time).

  • Compensation: $1,800 for the vertical slice period
